Fox Developing Space Alien Comedy From 'The Danish Girl' Actress Emerald Fennell (EXCLUSIVE)

Fox is developing a series that hails from “The Danish Girl” actress Emerald Fennell, Variety has learned exclusively.

Titled “Spacebound,” the single-camera comedy an alien who goes on an intergalactic coffee run and finds herself stranded on “the worst planet in the universe”: Earth. A group of eccentric friends takes her in and she discovers she might actually be the most functional person in the world.

Fennell will write the project in addition to executive producing. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley will also executive produce and will serve as showrunners should the project move forward. The Jackal Group will produce, with the company’s Gail Berman and Joe Earley also executive producing.

Fennell has primarily worked as an actress in her career. Her other writing credits include the British sitcom “Drifters” and the short film “Careful How You Go,” which she also directed. In addition to her role in the Oscar-winning film “The Danish Girl,” Fennell has appeared in series like “Call the Midwife,” “Chickens,” and “Any Human Heart,” as well as the films like “Pan,” “Anna Karenina,” and “Mr. Nice.”

Cragg and Bradley most recently created the ABC comedy “Uncle Buck,” and previously served as writers and producers on “Scrubs” and “MADtv.” Cragg also worked as a writer for “Saturday Night Live.”

This is also the latest development project this season for The Jackal Group. The company previously announced they were developing the series “Surrender” and “The Great Unknown” at Fox, the anthology series “Shock Theatre” at AMC, and the multi-camera hybrid comedy “Man of the House” at ABC.

Fennell is repped by UTA, 360 Management, Hansen Jacobson and in the U.K by Lindy King and Georgina Carrigan. Cragg is represented by UTA and Fred Toczek. Bradley is represented by UTA and Hirsch Wallerstein.
